Joy Squire was nominated for the Taylor Sports and Recreation Hall of Fame, appropriately, by the Taylor Ballet Americana Board of Directors. She is the founder and director of both the famed Taylor Ballet Americana and the Taylor Dance Program.
Squire’s childhood love of dancing led to the opportunity to teach thousands of children in Taylor over 37 years. She has helped many go on to dance, act and perform professionally.
At the same time, Squire has promoted the arts and culture in our community. In 1993, she was recognized by the Downriver Council for the Arts with the Salute to Excellence Award.
Her students consider her to be an inspiration. Children - both boys and girls - have learned ballet, Hawaiian, tap, and jazz in her programs. Each December, her students perform "The Nutcracker" to thunderous applause.
